This project, signed by Muebles Basoko Altzariak, was a true design challenge. The space in which they had to integrate a complete kitchen was a tiny apartment in the Gros neighborhood of San Sebastián, measuring only 37 square meters! Spoiler: challenge accomplished. We’ll tell you all the details.
Let’s analyze the layout of the different furniture and appliances, because although it may not seem like it, this is a kitchen that lacks nothing: refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher… and plenty of storage! From right to left, we find two floor-to-ceiling columns in which the microwave and refrigerator have been built-in, in addition to storage space. We continue with base cabinets for the sink, dishwasher, hob, and oven, and a final cabinet with drawers.
To give it an urban feel, the wall has been covered with a vinyl wallpaper that imitates classic square white tiles, but with a twist by marking the joints in black. The upper part has been almost entirely dedicated to storage, although in one of the wall units we find the hood, built-in. With the distribution challenge overcome, let’s move on to the aesthetics, which also has a lot to say. In an apartment of such small dimensions, it was essential not to add weight or visual noise. All without sacrificing the joy of color. To achieve this, Muebles Basoko Altzariak has opted for the freshness of our Vitoria model in green for base units and columns. Both the refrigerator and dishwasher have been paneled to integrate into the design scheme.
As a counterpoint and matching the visible appliances, the plinths and handles are black, adding solidity to the whole. For the wall units, they have opted for our Alabama model, with a oak effect, which gives the necessary organic brushstrokes to create a cozy and natural-looking space. To avoid overloading the set too much, they have replaced one of the pieces of furniture with open shelves.
With the available surface area, it was evident that the kitchen (and the entire apartment, in fact) should respond to the guidelines of the open concept. Within its possibilities, a linear distribution was chosen, in front of which a dining table would be placed.
